Screenwriter
ERIN McINNIS

Erin McInnis is a Vancouver-based screenwriter and communications professional who writes smart, contemporary romantic movies with the warmth and escapism audiences love, but with a distinctly modern sensibility.

Drawing on more than 20 years as a communications professional, Erin brings a strong understanding of character, storytelling, and human connection to her work. Her career has spanned government, the public sector, professional sports, and major international sporting events. She began her career with the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks and went on to work with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, along with numerous World Cups and World Championships across hockey, soccer, bobsled, cross-country skiing, and triathlon.

That experience, combined with her personal interests in sports, musical theatre, and travel, frequently finds its way into her scripts. Erin is particularly drawn to fresh takes on classic romance tropes and stories centered on compelling women, meaningful relationships, and the romantic, familial, and platonic connections that shape their lives. Her writing balances heart and humor, and she has a particular appreciation for a well-earned pun.

Erin came to screenwriting after years of watching holiday movies with friends, a tradition that became especially meaningful during the pandemic when the group would watch separately while texting and live-tweeting together. During Christmas 2024, one particularly memorable movie prompted Erin to declare, “I could write a better movie than this.” The next day, she began her first screenplay.

Her instincts quickly gained recognition. Erin’s holiday romance All the Jingle Ladies was named a semi-finalist in the Stage 32 + Evoke Entertainment Romantic Comedy Screenwriting Contest and is currently under a shopping agreement with a Canadian production studio. Her destination holiday romance Christmas in Croatia was also named a quarter-finalist in the ISA Emerging Screenwriters Family & Holiday Screenplay Competition.

Erin holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications with a minor in English Literature from Simon Fraser University and was the first person in her family to attend university.

Originally from Dawson Creek, British Columbia, where she grew up on a farm, Erin now lives in downtown Vancouver with her husband. Her own journey from small-town life to the big city is not lost on a writer who now makes a living finding fresh ways into classic romantic movie tropes.
